When the Minneapolis Junior League bought the old Walker Library building in 1994,
the organization faced major remodeling issues. The main floor of the building
would be used for the resale clothing shop, The Clothes Line, which raises about
$200,000 each year to fund Junior League projects which help women and children
in Minneapolis. Keewaydin loaned the Junior League the services of Terri Smucker to supervise the design and construction of the facility. Smucker managed the project and also made connections with other service providers to get discounts or donated services from architects, cabinet makers and others in the building trades. The $275,000 project was completed in 1994. In 1996, Smucker assisted the Junior League with a second remodeling which involved transforming 5,000 square feet of space into new offices, storage space and processing facilities. "I don't think we would have been able to do it without her. None of us on the committee had any experience in this kind of remodeling." Barb Beard President-Elect Junior League |
