In 1981, Peter Kitchak, Keewaydin's founder, was developing a residential condominium
project in Excelsior, Minnesota on Lake Minnetonka. The development company
needed a name. As part of his work in developing the project, Peter was researching
the history of Lake Minnetonka. He discovered that one of the grand old
hotels on Lake Minnetonka was named "Keewaydin." He liked the name and decided
to use it for his company. Only later did he find the Native American literal translation
for the name indicated below. Keewaydin (key way din), n. 1. A national real estate advisory company with integrity. 2. A service organization providing comprehensive real estate services, known throughout the business community as a leader in its field. 3. An American Indian god of the outdoors. 4. A Chippewa word meaning "northwest wind." |
